Total Hip Replacement surgical approach

news >>

We use the posterior approach to perform hip replacement. The benefits of this approach are: excellent vision when seating the acetabular cup - ensuring perfect position. Additionally whilst inserting the femoral stem the abductor muscle group (essential in pelvic stability whilst walking) is avoided thus providing our patients with a stable strong gait following surgery. This approach avoids injuring cutaneous (skin) nerves. The scar is located in an area that heals well and is not unsightly. Should a revision hip replacement be required in the future the same scar may be used for the following surgery. This approach may be used irrespective of body type.
